ADVENTURE SAFARI NORTH-EAST COAST BRAZIL

On this adventure safari, we will cross the Delta do Parnaiba by boat and hike for 3 days through the Lençóis Maranhenses national park. This is for all adventurers who are not afraid of sleeping in hammocks in absolute wilderness.

Day 1 : Parnaíba - Delta

Your adventure safari starts today! You will be picked up by your private guide in the morning at your pousada in Parnaiba. After a 30-minute drive, we will reach the port where our private motorboat awaits us. The small port of Tatus is the entrance to the delta of Parnaíba, the third-largest river delta in the world. Today, we will explore the untouched interior of the river delta. Enjoy the ride through the small river arms and dense mangroves. In the late afternoon, you will see an extraordinary natural spectacle. The rare red ibises (Guarás) gather every day by the thousands on one of the islands in the delta. On the night safari, we will observe snakes and caimans.

Day 2 : Parnaíba - Atins

We will continue with the Hilux pickup to Caburé, where our next boat awaits us. The journey to Atins takes about 15 minutes. In Atins, you will feel like you have arrived at the end of the world. There are no asphalt roads. Getting from A to B is difficult in fine, deep sand. This place can only be reached by boat. There are only a few pousadas and restaurants. Atins is still very original and has little tourism, nestled in a beautifully untouched landscape.

Day 3 : Atins - Oasis Baixada Grande

The entrance to the national park of Lençóis Maranhenses, which is a huge dune world with 1000 small crystal-clear lagoons, is located in Atins. The park covers 1,550 km2, has been a national park since 1981, and is the only desert in Brazil. Today we will start our adventurous hike across the beautiful national park.

Day 4 : Baixada Grande Oasis - Queimada dos Britos Oasis

We will continue through the dune landscape. In between, we will enjoy a refreshing bath in one of the crystal-clear lagoons. We will hike through countless dunes until we see our next destination on the horizon, the Queimada dos Britos oasis. We will be expected by the friendly hostess, who will prepare a chicken for us on the open fire, served with rice and beans. We will enjoy a simple dinner that is typical of this region.

Day 5 : Queimada dos Britos Oasis - Santo Amaro

We start at 4:00 in the morning and hike the first few hours in the moonlight. We will get to the middle of the desert landscape, surrounded by dunes and lagoons as far as the eye can see. The sunrise in this fairytale landscape is breathtaking. After about 5 or 6 hours, our driver will pick us up and take us to our pousada in Santa Amaro. It will be nice to have a bed and shower after 3 days in the desert.

Day 6: Barreirinhas - São Luís

Today we will drive for approximately 4.5 hours to São Luís, the last stage of your adventure tour. This beautiful colonial city is characterized by buildings of the Portuguese colonial period. The old town center of São Luís has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997. The numerous blue and white tiles of the facades of the houses give the city a very special flair. We will spend the night in the heart of the historic old town.

Important

  • In the desert there is no electricity. Please charge your electonic devices.
  • Don’t forget to take a flashlight.
  • Your luggage will be picked up on the 3rd day and goes directly to Santo Amaro. For the 3 day hiking trip, please take only a small backpack with the most important things.
